Dear Minister McEntee and Minister Martin,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to you as a concerned citizen regarding the recent incident involving a triple murder suspect who managed to evade capture for two years before entering Ireland. This alarming incident has highlighted the urgent need for enhanced border security measures to prevent further illegal entries and safeguard our state’s security and safety.

As responsible and dedicated leaders in the Justice and Foreign Affairs and Defence ministries, I am urging you to take immediate and decisive action to address this issue. The current vulnerabilities in our border control system are posing significant risks to our nation’s security and undermining public confidence in our immigration system. I firmly believe that by leveraging the modern technologies available, we can bolster our border security measures and ensure that individuals without proper documentation are unable to bypass the necessary checks and balances.

To effectively secure our borders and prevent illegal entries, I propose the following measures:

Enhanced Use of Modern Technology: It is crucial that we capitalise on the advancements in technology to strengthen our border control systems. Implementing automated identification systems, biometric screenings, and advanced surveillance tools can significantly enhance our ability to detect individuals attempting to enter the country without proper documentation. By investing in state-of-the-art technology, we can efficiently process passengers while minimising the risk of illegal entries.

Cooperation and Information Sharing: Collaboration between the Garda National Immigration Bureau, other relevant law enforcement agencies, and international partners is key to preventing individuals with criminal intentions from entering our country undetected. Strengthening information sharing mechanisms and establishing comprehensive databases to cross-reference data against known criminals and suspects will be instrumental in identifying potential threats before they reach our shores.

Strengthening Border Personnel and Resources: It is crucial to allocate adequate resources to our border control agencies, ensuring they have the necessary manpower and training to effectively carry out their duties. Recruiting and training additional immigration officers, equipping them with the knowledge and tools required to identify fraudulent documents, and implementing stringent protocols will significantly enhance our ability to prevent illegal entries.

Public Awareness and Education: Building public awareness and educating the public about the importance of border security and the risks associated with illegal entries can help garner support and cooperation from our communities. Engaging in campaigns that highlight the significance of reporting suspicious activities or individuals can serve as an additional layer of defense against potential threats.

Minister McEntee and Minister Martin, the recent incident involving the triple murder suspect is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities that exist within our border control system. The security and safety of our citizens are at stake, and it is imperative that we take swift action to rectify these deficiencies.

I kindly request your urgent attention to this matter, along with your commitment to implementing the proposed measures. By securing our borders, we will not only protect our nation’s security but also restore confidence in our immigration system.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing about the concrete steps being taken to address this pressing issue and ensure the safety and security of our beloved country.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Croft
